If the food supply is richly covered and the metabolism of the sea trout is running at full speed, then you can gladly reach for a larger fly that stands out from the crowd. The adh-fishing sea trout fly - Big Shrimp is such a fly. With the #4 hook size and the long tying method, it definitely belongs to the Big Shrimp. The antitangle tail of the shrimp is made of extremely soft material and moves very well in the water, sea trout find that too. The body consists of a hackle and a transparent chenille, this makes the body more voluminous, forming a slightly transparent silhouette. In combination, the fly is almost indistinguishable from one of the shellfish living in the sand, probably for this reason our Big Shrimp is so catchy!

• When the trout are targeting the large Baltic shrimp, Johannes relies on this pattern:
  "For a long time, I struggled with the Oeland Spey Shrimp (better known as Pattergrisen). I just couldn't get along with this pattern. Especially the high missed strike rate and the low durability of the Spey fibers bothered me. Ultimately, I simply tied my standard shrimp (Hotspot Shrimp) one size larger and with some altered materials – and there it was, my big, effective shrimp fly. Tied on a size 4 hook and with a bit more material, it's quite a chunk. But especially from late spring into autumn, the Big Shrimp can really make a difference. The presentation is typical shrimp: fast, short pulls and long sinking phases. During these pauses, all the bites come on some days, so hold onto the line tightly! I fish this pattern when I know there are many large shrimps around, for example when trout are regurgitating corresponding prey. I also use it in heavily moving water when I want to fish the fly rather slowly, as an alternative to the fast Surf Machine."
