The designs take between 2 and 14 hours for a single employee to complete. The SDS (Sealed Drag Salt) fly reel is Abel's absolute flagship for saltwater fishing. Whether for large tarpon, massive giant trevally or wary peacock bass, uncompromising performance is guaranteed with the SDS. It was not without reason that the reel won the award for best saltwater reel at the ICAST/IFTD in 2016! Even a few years later, many of the best-known saltwater anglers still put their trust in this reel.

The modern, timeless Large Arbor design has been crafted with the utmost precision and the highest possible standards of quality and durability. The frame, spool, drag knob and reel foot are machined from cold forged 6061-T651 aircraft grade aluminium. The cold forging process in combination with the hard, limited anodising of the surface gives the reel incredible robustness against all external influences such as impacts, sand or aggressive salt water. The airy, ventilated construction of the reel not only creates a modern, timeless look, it also combines a high degree of stability with a relatively low weight.

But above all, the reel has it all: the completely encapsulated brake core houses a powerful multi-disc brake system in which the braking power is generated by alternating carbon and stainless steel discs that distribute energy and force perfectly. At full power, braking forces of over 20 pounds are brought to bear. More than enough to tame the fastest and strongest saltwater predators of these seas. The braking power can be finely adjusted in no time at all using the smooth-running, easy-grip knob and always perfectly adapted to the respective situation, the target fish, your leader thickness, etc. One less thing to worry about when the fish of your life swims towards the Horizons.
