Thomas & Thomas presents the Contact III+, the latest generation of the award-winning Contact series. As a consistent further development of the successful Contact II, the third generation has been completely revised, but remains true to the proven character of the series. The familiar action and flex profiles have been retained, so that experienced Contact anglers will feel immediately familiar - while at the same time benefiting from numerous technical improvements.
The centrepiece of the Contact III+ is a newly developed, proprietary composite material that enables a 100 % pure carbon blank. This is not only lighter, but also slimmer than the previous models. The reduced diameter reduces drag when casting and minimises the influence of wind during the drift. Thanks to the improved material structure, the blank also has a faster recovery speed. The rod returns to its starting position more quickly, enabling longer and more precise casts with less effort. In addition, optimised blank damping ensures that tip resonance is almost completely eliminated. This results in direct contact with the fly and leader - for maximum sensitivity and control.
Modern techniques for Euro nymphing and fishing with fine leader systems place high demands on rods. The Contact III+ was developed specifically for applications such as thin leaders, small and light flies, dry dropper rigs and jig streamers and offers an exceptional combination of sensitivity, precision and power reserves.
Some models have been specially adapted to different areas of application:
- 1002 and 1092 models are ideal for smaller flies and particularly light set-ups.
- The former 1123 model has been replaced by the new 1153 - a longer, lightweight rod with even greater sensitivity, ideal for competition anglers and long-line Euro nymphing.
- The Contact III+ 1086 (6 wt) is specially designed for migratory fish species. It has a full wells handle, a full metal black reel seat and is supplied without a solid tip.
Two tips for maximum versatility:
- The solid carbon tip loads particularly easily when casting and offers outstanding sensitivity during the drift. It is ideal for micro leaders, very light flies and dry-dropper techniques and reliably protects even the finest tippets. Competition anglers in particular benefit from significantly improved bite detection and fewer lost fish at short distances.
- The tubular tip, on the other hand, offers more support for heavier flies such as jig streamers and when casting weight-forward fly lines for dry fly or dry-dropper rigs. It is also ideal for anglers who want to actively guide their fly over the rod tip during the drift.

Improved warranty and service process:
Thomas & Thomas offers a simplified warranty process for Contact III+ series tips. Anglers simply email a photo of the damaged tip along with the serial number and a suitable replacement tip will be manufactured and dispatched - without the need to send in the complete rod. Damage to other components still requires the entire rod to be sent in.
