For nymphing techniques in the stretched line style (e.g. 'French nymphing'), no classic bite indicators are used on the water surface, as these unnaturally accelerate the free drift of the nymph near the bottom. Instead, sighters are used that do not bear the weight of the nymph. The bites are sensed thanks to special rigs, leaders and sensitive rods (#2 - #4).
This visual aid from Soldarini Fly Tackle is used for 'Euro Nymphing' - as the nymphing techniques are often summarised - to better observe the leader and the drift. The monofilament is coloured so that it can be optimally seen when suspended in the air against many different backgrounds. It changes colour (orange/yellow) and can be shortened to the right length from the spool.
The second generation of the popular Sighter material is available in different diameters so that you can create your own customised leader. At 25 metres per spool, the material is sufficient for a long season on the river. As usual, you can connect a small Pitzenbauer ring between the tippet and sighter as a secure connection or knot a Perfection Loop into the Two Tone Indicator. You can choose the fluorocarbon or nylon tippet (we recommend the slightly stiffer Stroft ABR for nymph fishing) depending on the water level and the target fish.
