Technically viewed the rod builders at Orvis put a lot of emphasis on reducing undesired vibrations in the rod. Compared to its predecessor the Helios 3 rods recover faster with significantly dampened vibrations and hence transport your line and fly on a truer path to the target. Vertical and horizontal tip frequency during the cast have thus been reduced to an absolute minimum to create a rod that tracks extremely well and lays out some wonderfully precise casts. These unique properties have been achieved by strategically reinforcing the rod to prevent the blank from ovalizing when flexed. Additionally that resulted in a higher deflection distance to breakage of the rod which gives it more lifting power and strength while at the same time feeling lighter in hand due to a remarkably lighter swing weight – It really feels light in hand to a degree where you would love to fish this rod for hours and days!
Helios 3D:
Helios3 rods are available in two different versions: F (Feel) and D (Distance). All Helios 3D blanks feature a matt black finish and blue highlights. As the name indicates they are built and perfected for maximum distance, high line speeds and tight loops. Their action reminds us of the popular Orvis Tip Flex, but during the fight the 3D generates much more power in the lower part of the blank. They effortlessly cast weighted flies and heavy sinkers against a strong head wind with dominance and without loosing any controle or precision.
