Product information "Lamson Hyperspeed Saltwater Fly Reel - coastal"
The reel designers at Lamson asked themselves: "What can you say about bigger yet lighter, lighter yet stronger?" And they came to the conclusion: "Of course it can be done!" That’s exactly what they’ve been doing time and again when developing new reel models. And even though the bar is set higher each time, there are always new improvements, new ideas, new materials, and new processes waiting to be used. One important performance metric for a fly reel is the retrieval rate per gram. Because if you think about it, fast retrieval has only one real downside: extra weight.
With the Hyperspeed series, Lamson sets a new standard in the relationship between retrieval speed and weight. This reel series is CNC-machined, with artfully distributed material along critical stress points – stable and strong, yet so light that you might forget it's even there. But so beautiful that you'll always remember it. In this reel, Lamson has combined all their craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology and premium materials. A perfect balance that will put a smile on your face every time you’re on the water.
Hyperspeed M – The saltwater versions from the Speed series are specifically designed for saltwater fly fishing and are equally suitable for sea trout and bonefish as well as tarpon. The chassis of the Hyperspeed M is based on the conical drag system found in other Lamson reels, with the addition of a click-stop drag knob and a unique spring set that creates a linear torque curve with excellent fine-tuning at the lighter end of the range. The spool and frame's Super Large Arbor architecture is built for high line retrieval speeds, while being minimalistic and open to allow for better drying of the line and, of course, to reduce weight. Just the way Lamson’s reel engineers envisioned it. Combined with a refreshed, modern design and improved seals that provide even more reliable water resistance, the latest generation of Speed reels comes with our full recommendation!

About Lamson:
Waterworks is immediately associated by most fly fishermen with the lightweight, reliable reels. Yet the origin of Waterkworks lies in a small, innovative tool. In 1996, Waterworks was founded by two anglers and product designers because they found a better solution to remove the fly from the fish's mouth faster and more gently. Named after their hometown in Idaho, the first Waterworks product, the Ketchum Release Tool, was launched in 1996.
Even before Waterworks was founded, product designers were working with high-quality components. Ryan Harrison honed his skills and knowledge in high-performance cycling, for example. Among other things, Harrison developed suspension technology for Cannondale mountain bikes, so he was already familiar with wheels in the frame.
It was only logical that the founders turned to fly reels after the release tool. Because fly reels were heavy, overly complex and unreliable at the time, so there was work to be done here. With the question in mind of what the perfect fly reel looks like, the ULA was born and represents the foundation of today's high quality fly reels. Together with Lamson, the fly reels, rods and accessories, now enjoy more than two decades of passion, innovation and solid engineering - with no end in sight.
