The ULBC Boot combines a comfortable, ankle-high, rugged, yet lightweight trekking shoe, with a wading shoe, as well as a waterproof and breathable camp shoe. How is that even possible? Piece of cake!
The shoe consists of two parts: The shoe and an inner layer, which can be easily removed. On the hike, you put on the shoe together with the inner layer and get a lightweight and durable trekking shoe, while your feet stay dry thanks to the waterproof and breathable inner layer. Once you arrive at the water and slip into your waders, you remove the inner layer from the shoe, giving you a perfect and technical high-quality wading shoe. The wading shoe is based on the same robust construction as Guidelines flagship model the NGx wading shoe. Back at camp, however, the inner layer is not only useful for turning your wading shoe back into a trekking shoe, but much more. In camp while cooking or just chilling, you can put on the inner layer without the shoe. It is waterproof, breathable and has a rugged rubber sole, making it perfect for everyday life at camp.
The ULBC boot is very robust and thanks to the stiff and ankle-high construction, it is excellent for extended trekking tours in rough terrain. Additional safety is provided by the Vibram Idogrip sole, which gives you a secure grip on any terrain. Surrounded by a durable outer layer of nylon is the padding made of closed cell material, which provides a comfortable and firm grip, as well as does not absorb water, thus keeping the weight of the shoe low even when wet.
