ADH-Test: Nam VOR Spey Rods – Salmon Fishing in Norway!

Nam Products – A young brand from Scandinavia that has caused quite a stir in the international scene in recent years. And for good reason! The double-handed and single-handed rods from Marcus Bohlin and his team combine outstanding casting performance, ultra-lightweight construction, and minimalist design to perfection. After winning the hearts of salmon anglers in Sweden and Norway in no time, Nam rods have now established themselves along rivers, lakes, and coasts worldwide.

With the VOR series, Nam Products is now making their next big move! With these models, Marcus Bohlin and his team have managed to capture the typical “Nam Feeling” in single-handed and double-handed rods that can be offered at an extremely attractive price. We grabbed the first VOR Spey rods right away and put them to the test for you at the pools of the NFC (Norwegian Flyfishers Club). Follow us in this video to the Gaula River and find out everything you need to know about the VOR double-handed rods from Nam.

There are rods that put a smile on your face from the very first cast – and the longer you fish with them, the clearer it becomes that you’re dealing with a truly great tool. That’s exactly how we felt about the NAM VOR, which we tested for a week at different water levels on the legendary Gaula.

The VOR series bears its name for good reason: “VOR” means “spring” in Icelandic – and that’s exactly how this two-handed rod feels on the water: fresh, lively, and full of energy. It follows in the tradition of high-quality NAM models, but offers a much more attractive entry-level price – without cutting corners on action or craftsmanship.

Scandinavian DNA – with Depth

Developed by the experienced team led by Marcus Bohlin, the VOR Spey rods are true all-rounders for Atlantic salmon, sea trout, and steelhead. The deep medium-slow action loads the blank well into the butt section, offering tangible advantages both for precise Scandi casting and for powerful Skagit setups.

Whether short, controlled presentations under difficult conditions or long casts to the far bank – the VOR handles both with ease. During the fight, it reveals its second side: the deep backbone delivers enormous power reserves when a strong salmon tries to use the current to its advantage. What stands out immediately: the typical “Nam Feeling” – a unique combination of lightness, power, and an extremely responsive tip. An action we know from both the Original and REN series. The low swing weight ensures that even long sessions on the water won’t cause fatigue.

Design and Craftsmanship – Minimalist and Travel-Friendly

Visually, the VOR remains true to its Scandinavian origins: the matte black, finely polished carbon blank avoids any gimmickry and radiates pure functionality. Subtle black decorative wraps, small white alignment markers, and a polished, black anodized reel seat complete the look.

The features are well thought-out:

  • Premium cork handle with an extremely fine texture
  • Reinforced fighting butt made from durable composite material
  • Carefully positioned sturdy guides for optimal line control
  • Black anodized screw reel seat made from high-quality aluminum
  • 6-piece design – perfect for traveling abroad
  • Comes in a durable Cordura travel tube

The VOR series is produced in one of the most renowned factories in Korea. Marcus Bohlin and his team placed particular emphasis on creating a rod that is not only lightweight but also extremely resistant to breakage. Another plus for anyone looking for a tool they can rely on, even in tough situations.

Our Test on the Gaula

We used the VOR 9140 (14'0" #9) and the VOR 8132 (13'2" #8) – sizes that perfectly cover many typical conditions on salmon rivers.

VOR 8132: Versatile, handy, and perfect for precise casts. It loads pleasantly deep but remains fast enough to handle stronger winds. This model is a true all-rounder, easily handling both longer Scandi heads and aggressive Skagit setups with heavy sink tips. The ideal choice for a variety of typical salmon rivers in Europe!

VOR 9140: Our favorite for higher water levels and the larger Gaula pools. A powerhouse for long casts with heavy sink tips and weighted flies. The rod delivers a “smooth feeling” that’s addictive – the blank works deep but releases its energy in a controlled way through the faster tip.

What stood out: All VOR rods also forgive small timing mistakes. So if you’re switching from a shorter two-hander or a switch rod, or are just starting out with double-handed fishing, you’ll quickly find the right casting rhythm. A full recommendation for anyone wanting to enter the fascinating world of Salmo salar!

All Models at a Glance

  • VOR 7126 – 12'6" #7: Classic for sea trout, summer salmon, or steelhead. Lightweight and travel-ready.
  • VOR 8132 – 13'2" #8: Versatile all-rounder for European and North American salmon rivers.
  • VOR 9140 – 14'0" #9: The “one-for-all” rod for Norway, Sweden, or Scotland.
  • VOR 11156 – 15'6" #11: The workhorse for high water, heavy flies, and maximum distance.

Line Recommendations

The VOR works well with both Scandi and Skagit setups. That’s why we couldn’t resist testing the rods with shooting heads from the FEI series by Nam Products. These include both longer tapers, ideal for the relaxed Scandi casting style, and short, aggressive heads that let you blast out heavy sink tips and large flies in the Skagit style.

Conclusion

The NAM VOR Spey Delgado is a rod for anyone who values performance, versatility, and travel-friendliness – and all that at a price that is almost unbelievably fair for this quality. It delivers the typical “NAM feeling”: smooth loading, powerful and lively feedback, and a minimalist design that is timelessly elegant.

Whether you’re looking to catch your first salmon in Sweden or hunt sea trout in Denmark: with the VOR from Nam Products, you have a tool in your hands that won’t let you down. Promise!
