Simple Flies - Under this motto we present you flies that are tied with few materials and in few steps. Because good flies don't necessarily have to be difficult - quite the opposite! These patterns can be tied quickly and easily. Patterns, that have proven themselves thousands of times in practice and with which you can quickly fill your fly box. We show you our interpretations and hope you have fun tying and fishing these Simple Flies. Let's go!
We know flash streamers especially from Pike fishing. But patterns with this luminous material also work very well on large Brown Trout. For example, when the water is dusty and high. Or on overcast days and in poor light conditions. That's exactly when we fish the Flashy Minnow Streamer! On a short sink tip (but also on floating line) this streamer is very easy to cast and sinks quickly due to its low weight.
You are free to choose a hook size between #1 and #8. Models such as the Ahrex TP605 (Trout Predator Streamer Light) or the Gamakatsu F314 are particularly suitable. We have chosen a #4 hook here - a universal size for chunky Brown Trout. Our Zonker is weighted with a tungsten bead (4.6 mm or 5.5 mm). With the colour combination brown, gold, orange we imitate a minnow. Completely silver with a red hot spot it also works very well, e.g. in clear and bright water. And also for stillwater fishing for Trout, the Flashy Minnow is a joker card in your fly box.
Similar tying materials are used as for our Rusty Wooly Bugger and for the Hot Spot Zonker. This is what you need to tie the Flashy Minnow Streamer:
- Tinsel Blend Hair (deep gold)
- Hedron Flashabou Dubbing (gold for the body, brown for the finish)
- Veniard Glo Brite Floss (as a substitute for a conventional tying thread and for the Hot Spot)
And very important: brush the body vigorously before tying in the flash! This is how the Flashy Minnow unfolds its full potential in the current. For better durability, we recommend sealing the hot spot made of Glo Brite Floss with super glue.
