With the Kairos however, Winston comes up with a mid priced multipurpose fly rod series featuring a faster tip-flex action with great all-round abilities that reach beyond classical dry fly applications. Kairos rods combine power, recovery and “Winston-feeling” to master the stretch between dry fly fishing and techniques that demand a “more power - less finesse” approach. Especially the faster tip section helps to efficiently cast streamers as well as heavy nymph rigs and always provides enough strength for a consequent hook-set. Yet, the Kairos Series is far from being a stiff broomstick – it is perfectly capable to deliver precise short to medium presentations with a good level of subtlety. Especially when paired with modern fly lines that usually come slightly over weighted the Kairos makes a lot of fun and sense to fish dries in technical situation close up. Another clear plus of the faster action and quick recovery is its suitability for big flies which the kairos launches out even in windy conditions.
The new Kairos series has been designed as a multipurpose rod and thus covers a wide range of fishing application: starting with a #3 for technical trout fishing to a #10 for casting huge streamers and heavy sinking lines. Ever since Winston rods have been known for their high quality builds and even though the Kairos is a mid-priced rod series it has a super nice finish featuring high quality components. The 4-piece blanks have a black clear graphite finish and come with Chrome-Nanolite stripping guides and chrome plated snake guides wrapped with Winston green thread. The black anodized reel seat matches the blank and has a classical engraved Winston logo. As all Winston’s the Kairos rods are designed and build in Twin Bridges (Montana/USA). The high quality build is topped by a Winston typical handwritten blank inscription above the high quality cork handle.
