English Partridge is a favorite for tying soft hackle classics such as the famous ‘Partridge & Orange’ or 'March Brown' wetflies which ever since have proven their fish catching abilities. However these soft feathers add a lot of realism and movement to modern nymph-patterns in the form of legs, antenna and hackles. Moreover English partridge is the ideal choice for imitating mouth parts and legs on shrimp- and scud-flies – e.g. the ‘Pattegrisen’. You can either hackle or dub this material to create very tantalizing patterns or use entire feathers for tying caddis wings.
