With the SD fly reel, Loomis & Franklin offers an extremely versatile and high-quality tool for all techniques of modern fly fishing – whether with dry flies, delicate nymphs, or powerful streamers. The reel is available in three sizes, covering the full range of common applications – from delicate presentations in small streams to targeted fishing for larger predators in still and running waters.
The finely adjustable drag system with carbon discs responds smoothly and precisely – ideal when protecting fine leaders while nymph fishing or using small dry flies, but just as reliable when fighting strong fish, such as when streamer fishing for trout or pike. The drag force can be conveniently and accurately adjusted via a numerically marked adjustment knob. The fully sealed drag system is reliably protected against dirt, sand, and moisture – for consistent performance even under harsh conditions.
The large-arbor spool ensures fast line retrieval, which is particularly beneficial when retrieving long leaders or during quick reeling in a fight. The large spool core also reduces the memory effect of the fly line, resulting in a smoother casting performance – a real advantage when casting dry flies with precision or presenting delicate nymphs.
Another highlight is the V-shaped spool bottom, which not only increases line capacity but also allows for even, clean winding – no matter whether you're using fine tippets or heavier streamer leaders.
The SD fly reel is made from a solid block of anodized 6061-T6 aluminum. The CNC-machined construction ensures maximum stability while keeping weight low. The durable anodizing reliably protects the reel from corrosion – even with intensive use and frequent changes between freshwater and saltwater.
Of course, the reel can be easily converted from right- to left-hand retrieve – flexible and practical, just the way you need it.
