Tungsten beads should be part of every fly tyer's armoury - at least if nymphs and streamers are to go into the can.
Compared to other materials (e.g. brass or lead), tungsten has several key advantages: Firstly, the weight is significantly higher than other metals for the same diameter. As a result, your nymph sinks faster towards the bottom and smaller hook sizes can be fished. A big plus point on heavily frequented waters!
When streaming, heavy patterns are not pushed to the surface as quickly by the current and instead remain in the fishy zone for longer. Apart from that, tungsten is also non-toxic and therefore harmless for our rivers and lakes.
With these specially cut Hanak tungsten beads (diamond shape), you can create a special highlight at the tying table. The diamond shape means that the light is refracted more frequently and reflected more strongly. This is why nymphs with diamond-faceted tungsten beads are a particularly good choice in adverse conditions - e.g. in dusty water. If you want to give your pattern an extra point of attraction, then you should definitely try the coloured anodised versions! Pink and purple is a must-have for grayling fishing and green, for example, is also ideal for clear water. The most important thing, however, is that you create a different, new attraction with your nymph and thus appeal to fish that have long since stopped falling for run-of-the-mill patterns.
