Guideline's 4D Distance Body shooting heads are designed for lovers of longer rods and extra long casts on big salmon rivers. They are also available in higher weights and are therefore perfect for heavier two-handers with a length of at least 13 ft - up to the 17ft. LPXe from Guideline. 4D Distance Body shooting heads are on average approx. 1.5m longer than the regular 4D shooting heads from Guideline. The head length varies between 12 m and 14.5 m depending on the class and sink rate.
Equipped with plenty of turnover, the heads in combination with modern two-handed rods effortlessly bring large, weighted flies and fast sinking tips to distance. All 4D shooting heads have a density gradient that increases from the rear taper towards the tip (double density). In combination with the Guideline 4D tips, which also have a double density design, this results in a stepless increase in density throughout the entire system, which has four different sink rates (4D). Compared to a conventional single density shooting head, this results in significantly better casting characteristics, more comfortable handling and maximum control over the swing of the fly, as the less dense belly is easier to control, manoeuvre and lift off the water than the denser front taper, which brings the fly to depth. In addition, the rear part of the head floats higher in the water column so that the line is less likely to hang up on the bottom - this effectively counteracts snags and break-offs. Further advantages of the 4D concept result from the improved control over the fly. Guidelines Direct Contact line core also contributes to this, which ensures direct contact with the fly and fish with only 6% stretch and is also one of the strongest salmon line cores on the market with a load capacity of up to 42lbs.
Correct combining made easy:
All 4D shooting heads must be combined with a matching tip. For two-handed rods up to 14 ft. we recommend tips with a length of 15 ft. For longer rods, tips with 15 ft. or 18 ft. are best suited. Both the shooting heads and the tips of the Guideline 4D shooting head system are colour-coded to facilitate the selection of suitable SK/tip combinations. The following applies: the same colours result in a balanced system (see table).
4D bodies and tips are sold individually so that you can combine everything as you wish. There is a choice of different tips from Dual Density Floating to Super Fast Sinking S5 / S8. All tips are colour coded to allow easy matching to the 4D body. And if you prefer to cast a skagit style, then you can also combine the bodies with the Guideline T-Tips in 15 ft.
