Guideline Stoked Switch Fly Rod

With the Stoked Switch rods, the rod makers from Guideline seamlessly continue the success story of the single-handed models of the same name. Leif Stavmo and his team of experienced Scandinavian salmon anglers have managed to combine convincing casting performance and an attractive price with these modern rods. Stoked Switch rods offer excellent value for money and they are built with the same remarkable finish as the single-handed versions. Undoubtedly one of the lightest rod series in its price range! Well balanced and easy to cast, medium fast action with a forgiving curve that absorbs beginner mistakes and creates plenty of feel in the cast. Compared to the Elevation, these rods have a slightly lower modulus carbon. The action is well suited to both Scandi and Skagit styles and has a tolerance for a wide weight range in the lines to accommodate preferences for both styles.

These rods have been designed and rated with the US Switch weight standards in mind. This means that they should be loaded with the same weights normally used on Scandinavian two-handed rods. The length of these rods makes them easy to handle and allows them to be used as a one-handed rod if you feel the need in special situations. They are very suitable for fishing small to medium sized rivers. Due to the line strength, they are powerful rods that can easily handle wind, fairly large and heavy flies and a wide variety of line types and densities.

All Stoked rods are equipped with the latest materials and production technologies. This makes it possible to produce beginner rods on a completely new level. The Stoked range also features many of the same environmentally friendly components and processes as Guideline's Elevation rods, making them a great choice for the environmentally conscious angler. All Stoked rods come with environmentally friendly PVD coated rings in Gun Smoke finish. They are supplied in a rod bag and PP (polypropylene) tube with strong recycled polyester fabric cover. Stoked Siwtch rods feature an up-locking reel seat and have carefully designed handles with a 265mm front handle and a 90mm rear handle.

With the Guideline Stoked Switch rod, the name undoubtedly says it all again. In terms of casting performance, workmanship and environmentally conscious production, these rods are in no way inferior to the one-handers. We are thrilled again in every respect. In other words: We are absolutely STOKED again!

Our recommendations:

Stoked 11ft. #7/8 Switch
This is a great choice if you want to get started with Switch rods and all the fun that comes with them. Lightweight, with a medium fast action and performance far beyond what you would expect from rods of this level. This is the right line weight to start with if your goal is not the biggest fish in medium and larger rivers.

We recommend rigging this rod with the following Guideline lines for Scandi/Spey style casting: 3D Compact 30 gram #7/8 Shooting Heads. These are available in seven models from Float to S2/5/7.  4D Compact Multi Tip (body and tips). The best combination is the Floating (or F/S3) 22 gram body with 12'/7gr tips (available from Float to S5/7). For skagit style casts or generally for a heavier load on the rod, the following set-up is good: 4D Compact 25 gram/385 grains body + 10' or 12'/7 gram/108 grains tips. (Available from Float to S5/7).

Stoked 11ft. #8/9 Switch
Stoked Switch rods are an affordable way to try this popular style of fishing. This 8/9 weight rod has plenty of power and a medium fast action that is easy to use. We are sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the casting characteristics of this rod. It is a good choice for rivers where big fish swim and where you need big flies, heavier lines and fast sinking tips to catch them.

The rod works great with the following Guideline lines for Scandi/Spey style casting and technique: 3D Compact 33 gram #8/9 Shooting Heads. These are available in seven models from Float to S2/5/7. 4D Compact Multi Tip (Bodies and Tips). The best combination is Floating (or F/S3) 25 gram body with 12'/7gr tips (available from Float to S5/7). For skagit style casts or generally more stress on the rod, the following set-up works well: 4D Compact 29 grams/447 grains body + 10' or 12'/7 grams/108 grains tips. (Available from float to S5/7).
