When fishing for Tarpon, Trevally & Co anglers often only have a few opportunities during the day, and whether or not they make an accurate cast can decide on the success or failure of the day. All the more important then is a perfect presentation, because despite their size, these fish are extremely line-shy in the clear saltwater under a bright blue sky. Countless fish have been spooked because of a poorly placed cast or a blind cast that landed too close to a fish the angler simply didn’t see. These easily spooked fish will be gone before the line even hits the water sometimes.

Cortland has developed the Liquid Crystal Clear Fly Lines just for these demanding scenarios. The special saltwater lines feature a glass-clear coating of a mixture of polyethylene and unique co-polymers that are welded to a transparent monofilament nylon core. This line is crystal clear and completely transparent! Its surface is so smooth that it glides through the guides, reaches much higher line speeds and casts further than most saltwater lines with a conventional PVC coating. It can also be lifted from the water almost silently and with minimal disturbance of the water surface, which allows corrective casts to be less likely to spook fish in the area. The coating is so firmly attached to the core that the line shows very little stretch. Even the finest bites become noticeable and the hook can be placed directly. Also in terms of durability and insensitivity to abrasion (e.g., coral or shells), the Liquid Crystal Clear Fly Line is exemplary.

The Liquid Crystal Tarpon Taper in line classes 10 to 12 is designed for fly fishing for Tarpon, Barracuda, Big Jack and Trevally. The majority of the weight of the 12.7 meter-long head is in the front 3.3 meters and ensures that strong leaders and big flies are transported with enormous power. The 9.4 meter backtaper stabilizes the line trajectory and loop in the air. Therefore, despite their heavy weight, these lines form very tight and controlled loops, which stretch out and gently lay on the water. Line lengths of up to about 14 meters can be lifted off the water with a backcast. The casting distances of 10 to 20 meters, which are typically required in these fisheries, can be achieved by a good fly fisherman with just two false casts.

The Liquid Crystal Clear Fly Lines are equipped with extra strong welded loops at both ends for quick and easy connection to the leader and backing.
