Scientific Anglers Headway Belly Shooting Head Floating

The modern Scientific Anglers Headway Belly is a fantastic double-handed shooting head for swinging flies for large fish – whether salmon, sea trout or steelhead. It combines a well-balanced taper design and the best materials available for a truly outstanding performance.

First of all, it is equipped with the innovative Scientific Anglers AST Plus Technology (Advanced Shooting Technology), which is based on an additive that permanently diffuses to the surface of the line in order to maintain its fantastic slickness. Therefore, this line will stay much smoother and it creates less drag than ordinary fly lines. And of course, this technology sets new standards in terms of durability.

But this compact shooting head has even more to offer. It has a well-balanced Scandi taper that creates very appealing casting properties. First of all, it is extremely easy to cast. Further, the relatively high weight distribution towards the rear end of the line allows very easy handling for controlled lifting and a precise anchor placement. These steps are followed by a tight loop created by its powerful casting properties. Therefore, this head will easily transport all kinds of salmon flies – whether tiny summer flies or heavily weighted tubes for fishing in high water. In fact, this shooting head is designed to be used with the different Headway tips – whether the tapered versions or heavy T-Tips. Combined with a selection of different sink tips, it will provide you with maximum flexibility that allows you to do whatever the conditions require – no matter what. In fact, this floating version is a particularly great choice for fishing shallow pools and in low water conditions, for instance during the summer months. But combined with an aggressive sink tip, it also allows a relatively deep presentation, which makes it a very versatile tool.

In short: The Headway Belly from Scientific Anglers combines incredible versatility with very appealing casting properties. Combined with different sink tips, it allows successful fishing in many different conditions. Therefore, it’s a great choice for fishing salmon rivers all over the world!

The perfect combination for your rod:

Both the Headway Bellies and the Headway Tips are available in different lengths and weights. This allows you to choose the ideal line setup that perfectly matches your rod and style of fishing. When choosing a line setup, the combined weight of belly and tip should more or less match the ideal casting weight of your rod. In most cases, this can be achieved with multiple combinations, and therefore you can choose between different total lengths. For instance, when selecting a line for a class 9/10 rod, you can choose between different options. Combining a 31 g belly with a 15 ft tip will give you a line setup with a total weight of 40 g and a length of 12,5 m. If you prefer a more compact setup, you can also combine a 35 g belly with a shorter 9 ft tip. This combination will also result in a total weight of 40 g but with a more compact length of 10,9 m. As always, one basic rule applies: Generally speaking, a shorter line setup is easier to cast, but a longer setup allows longer casting distances and it requires less stripping after every swing. It’s up to you!
