It consists of eight round braided PE (polyethylene) strands. Compared to conventional Dacron backing, it is significantly thinner with the same breaking strain. Tip: When knotting, double up the backing to increase the knot strength on these very thin lines. This doubles the surface area in the knot and increases the knot's breaking strain tremendously. The double loop also has the advantage that the backing does not cut into the connection to the fly line.
