This small, inconspicuous fly is a pattern you can trust 100%, no matter the day, no matter the month!

"I must admit that the sparseness and small size of this fly may not inspire much confidence in the novice user. However, anyone who gives 'The Snack' an honest chance will quickly develop that confidence. I came up with this pattern – or this rendition, 'pattern' is actually overstating it – when I started tying smaller and sparser flies for delicate fish and situations. Now I have several of these small hackled flies in different color variations in my box. One that has consistently proven itself is this: dark, slightly iridescent dubbing, with a matching hackle over it and a bit more conspicuous spectra dubbing in the head area. Small dumbbell eyes give 'The Snack' a slightly faster sinking behavior and a stable swimming position, with the hook point facing downward. Thanks to its natural yet eye-catching color, this small, sparse fly is a real killer when I have an area in front of me where I know fish are present. However, I don't typically use it as a pure searching fly."
