The adh-fishing Sea Trout Fly - Surf Machine is the fly for rough conditions on the coast. The slightly larger sea trout pattern works great in wind and wave in cloudy water. The brown fly with the extremely soft antitangle tail gives a perfect silhouette and convinces with excellent play. Of course, the fly also catches in clear water and that especially well in spring, at worm time, as well as in summer, quickly guided at dusk.

The Surf Machine is one of the few patterns in my box that isn't tied sparsely. It looks more like a classic sea trout fly: lush, large, colorful – noticeable! I always find it difficult to tie because I prefer slim, sparse flies. However, in the right conditions, sometimes you just need such a big fly. Overcast skies, a strong wind at force 5 coming diagonally from the front, and slightly stirred-up water: these are the conditions where I tie this pattern onto at least a 28-pound tippet. I also retrieve it relatively quickly even in proper waves, as the trout are now on the hunt, the prey is correspondingly nervous, and a slow pattern tends to arouse suspicion on the predator's side. The combination of natural yet striking colors and the lively jigging produced by the heavy eyes is very well received by sea trout in hunting mode, and often bites on the Surf Machine are brutally determined. By the way: occasionally, trout in particularly strong turbidity mainly feed on slowly moving shrimps, in which case a slowly retrieved Big Shrimp is the better option."
