Skafars Neon Wax Indicator

Euro Nymphing, French Nymphing and other varieties of modern nymph fishing are all the rage! This exciting fishery with light tackle, thin leaders and small nymphs is very effective - and very challenging at the same time! That's why many innovative products are being developed in this niche of fly fishing, which help to improve the detect gentle takes. And this is where the Skafars Neon Wax Indicator comes into play.

The Skafars Neon Wax Indicator is an innovative product that was created out of pure necessity. Because this Indicator wax helped the inventors quickly solve a few small challenges they encountered in Euro nymphing. The original idea behind the wax is as follows: When Euro nymphing, you usually try to keep the fly in full contact with the line for as long as possible. This means that no slack is created in the tippet or leader. In other words, you try to keep the rig straight. This is why it is called 'tight line nymphing'. The wax is meant to be a marker on the leader to help you determine how deep your fly is drifting in the water column. It also makes it easier to follow the drift of your nymph and to check the optimum tension in the leader. Last but not least, the coloured wax serves as a classic strike indicator.

The Skafars Neon Indicator Wax is therefore an alternative to conventional sighters made of (multi-)coloured monofilament that are knotted between tippet and nymph leader. The advantages of the wax are obvious: you can choose the colours depending on the light conditions and combine them as you like to create your own individual sighter. In addition, you can set the distances to the nymph as you like without having to change the rig every time. This gives you much more flexibility compared to classic sighter material and saves you a lot of time.

The high flexibility of the Skafars Neon Wax Indicator is also due to the fact that the wax is easy to remove. You can easily remove it with your fingers and reapply it elsewhere (or with a different colour). The wax doesn't stain the leader or tippet, it doesn't affect floatation or sinkage, and it doesn't add weight that can affect casting and presentation. It also saves you knotting the sighter and gives you a clean, direct transition from leader to tippet.

As enthusiastic supporters of modern nymph fishing, we were immediately amazed by the Skafars Neon Wax Indicator and were completely convinced at the latest after the first practical tests on the Grayling river. The material can be applied to any part of the leader or tippet in a flash and is super easy to use. It is neither harmful to the environment nor does it leave marks on the leader. There is also a wide range of colours. For particularly tricky situations, black and white are highly recommended! In short: For us, the Skafars Neon Wax Indicator is a very interesting alternative to classic sighter material.

Details:

  • Indicator Wax
  • Alternative to conventional sighters made of coloured nylon
  • Serves as bite indicator
  • Provides information about the depth of the nymph
  • Facilitates drift control
  • Wide range of colours
  • Easy and quick to apply
  • Can be removed without leaving any residue

Tips: In a temperature range between 10 and 30 degrees Celsius, the wax usually lasts half an hour to an hour on the leader or tippet. Very little wax is needed for application. That is why a tube lasts a very long time! Please beware, that the wax does not tolerate cold or extreme heat. At high temperatures it can become liquid and change its structure and at temperatures below 5 degrees it becomes hard and brittle. Should the wax ever stain your clothes, it can easily be removed by hand washing with soap or detergent.
