Predator & Salmon Star Flash Tube Flies

Do you mind something a little more flashy? Fishing for salmon and sea trout with flash materials is the latest trend on the rivers of Scandinavia. Salmon expert Steffen Granbo shows us his favourite patterns tied with the Star Flash from Future Fly and explains the advantages of these modern tube flies, which you can find in the Guideline fly range.

SG's Sillen, SG's Orange, SG's Black & Yellow. We have fished them successfully and are thrilled with these eye-catching flash flies. Steffen Granbo's (SG) tube flies, which he designed for Guideline, are different. This is because they mainly consist of a long flashwing. Whereas traditional tube flies prefer to use fox or similar, natural materials as wings. And this particular flash material is the Future Fly Predator & Salmon Star Flash, which is a mixture of many different flash materials. The combination of holographic, metallic and cringle flash is not only extremely eye-catching and mobile, it is also much more robust and easier to cast than natural materials. Whether the 5 cm or 11 cm variant of the tube flies, they hardly absorb any water and can thus be fired effortlessly to the other bank of the river even on light tackle.

The Predator & Salmon Star Flash seems to be particularly appealing to the fish, because takes on a flash tube tend to come without hesitation and are very strong. This is of course a great advantage when setting the hook. The Flash not only plays underwater in the movements of the current, it plays even more with the reflections of the incoming light. And it is precisely this that seems to exert a special attraction on the fish, because Steffen Granbo told us that even in clear water and sunshine the SG's Sillen with its bright flashwing is a real 'killer'.

Another advantage of tying with the versatile Predator & Salmon Star Flash is that the fibres of the different flash materials do not stick together. This makes tying easier and gives the pattern a lot of volume. It also makes the flash very interesting for other patterns. For example, for the well-known Pikeflash flies. In many of our beloved pike or perch flies we combine different synthetic materials in one pattern to achieve a perfect combination of volume, mobility and attraction. This is exactly what the Future Fly Predator & Salmon Star Flash offers 'out of the box'. So you don't need much more than the Predator & Salmon Star Flash to tie effective flies for predators - which are also very durable and can withstand sharp teeth thanks to the robust fibres.
