Orvis Helios Bending Curve

Your best is now 4 times better! With the long-awaited introduction of the new Helios fly rods, Orvis is launching a full offensive and shaking up the fly rod market quite a bit. Because with the technical specifications of the new flagship, Orvis makes a bold statement: 4 times as precise, 25% stronger, and a 10% reduced swing weight compared to the competition. That's quite a statement! This is substantiated by empirical data from intensive test studies and a seven-year development process. Whether on small trout streams or giant saltwater predators, with the D and F models (D=Distance / F=Finesse), Orvis covers the entire spectrum in the one-handed range.

Already with the Helios 3, the American traditional company set new standards in rod construction. Since its introduction in 2017, the Helios 3 rods have gained many followers around the globe and have been particularly praised for their precision, which has become the gold standard for the fly rod market. In the development process of the new Helios, this standard was the basis for an even more precise, even better rod. The fourth generation of Helios rods is among the most advanced fly rods on the market and the result of almost two decades of intensive rod development and technological progress.

Precision - 4X more precise!
4 times as precise as its predecessor. That's a quantum leap in precision and almost unbelievable. But this number is supported by empirical data collected through specially developed measurement methods for this purpose. A major problem with precision is the tip displacement after the rod stop in the cast. This uncontrolled vibration of the tip has been drastically reduced in the new Helios fly rod. The result: a more efficient energy transfer and precision like target shooting.

Orvis Helios Precision Testing
Compared to the previously most precise rods on the market, the new Helios records a 4-fold reduction in tip vibration and thus higher casting precision.

Strength - 25% stronger!
Precision gets the fly to the fish, but the strength in the blank ultimately brings it to the net or boat. After years of analyzing the reasons for rod breakage in other rods, especially its direct predecessor (Helios 3), the main reasons for rod breakage were identified and largely eliminated. "More Bend and Backbone," not only sounds nice, but is also the reason why the new Helios rods are 25% stronger and thus define the new gold standard on the market. The new Helios has a more homogeneous bending curve, distributing tension throughout the entire blank under load, thus relieving stress points that are more prone to cause breakage. Ultimately, this means more lifting power, so you can handle precarious situations with even more confidence.

More Bend, more Backbone! After intensive and long-term material tests, the blank's power reserves could be increased by 25%.

Quality - "Overengineered is an understatement"
Not only in terms of the performance of the new Helios rods, was the best on the market just good enough as a basis to go back to the drawing board. Also, in terms of the choice of materials and components for the rod, there is currently nothing better on the market. So, each rod model has received perfectly matched components for its intended use. This is evident directly in the shape and design of the grip and reel seat. For example, the lightest models have been equipped with a fine half wells grip made of the highest quality cork, the nymph models have a downlocking reel seat with a small fighting butt, the heavier freshwater models have an ergonomic, slightly smaller full wells grip with fighting butt, and the heavier predator and saltwater rods have a stronger full wells grip with composite reinforcement for improved durability and more grip.

The smooth, robust screw reel seat made of Type III anodized aluminum has been adorned with a high-quality spacer made of noble wood in the freshwater models. Other features that contribute to the 10% reduced swing weight are the high-quality guides and minimalist varnishing of the blank. Titanium guide rings with SiC insert and RECoil snake guides made of titanium reduce weight, improve blank recovery, and contribute to the longevity of the rod. And for the perfect protection of the rod during transport, there is the high-quality case with snap closure and a slim aluminum rod tube.

New forth Generation Orvis Helios Rods

  • Helios D: The fourth generation of Helios rods are available in two different versions: F (Finesse) and D (Distance). The matte black blanks of the Helios Distance series come in a stylish, minimalist design and combine incredible power reserves with precise accuracy. During the fight, the "Distance" variant releases significantly more power from the lower part with its new carbon fiber. As the name suggests, the Helios D rods have been trimmed for maximum casting performance, high line speeds, and tight loops - without losing control and accuracy. They cast large flies on heavy sink lines with extraordinary stability against the wind. Medium and long presentations are their great strength, and casts into the backing pose no problem for the powerful Helios D rods. Absolutely sovereign power rods for lakes, the coast, flats, tough offshore use, and for all those fly fishermen who like it uncompromisingly fast!

  • Helios 3F: The fourth generation of Helios rods are available in two different versions: F (Finesse) and D (Distance). The Finesse versions of the new Helios rods focus particularly on presentation characteristics, sensitivity, and lightness. So typical scenarios of local trout and grayling fishing. Their blank offers first-class feedback and brings your fly to the target with insane accuracy - and lays it there as cleanly as a feather. All models from the F series are ideal for technical presentations and delicate fish in all situations that demand perfection and wherever thinnest tippets are used. Looking for incredible feeling and precision? Welcome to your destination!
