adh-fishing Hosted Trip: Peacock Bass in Brazil

Your adventure with us - hunting for peacock bass together in Brazil

Join us in January 2026 on our hosted trip to the Rio Negro in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon and experience a week full of action, adventure and unforgettable moments. Together with us and a small group of like-minded fly fishermen, you will go on the hunt for the legendary peacock bass from a floating expedition boat - powerful, aggressive and with spectacular bites that turn every fight into an adrenaline rush.

Unique atmosphere in the jungle

Imagine waking up in the middle of the Amazon. The morning mist still lies over the river, the first sounds of the jungle are getting louder - and a day full of excitement lies ahead of you. The boat takes you into side arms, lagoons and hidden lakes, where peacock bass of all sizes await you.

Your journey begins in Manaus, the gateway to the Amazon. After a short domestic flight, you reach Barcelos, where the floating Hotel Savana is already waiting for you. You will be on board for eight days - small, exclusive and very close to the water. Your cabin is air-conditioned, has its own bathroom, power connections for your batteries and even Wi-Fi. In the evening, you can look forward to excellent food, relaxing hours on deck and socialising with other fly fishermen.

How to fish

During the day, it's all about concentrating on the fish. Two anglers share a boat with an experienced local guide who knows the waters like the back of his hand. With powerful petrol engines for longer distances and silent electric motors for the tricky hotspots, you can reach the most remote corners of the river. That's where the big peacock bass lurk - real fighters that demand everything from you.

The fishing is varied and intense. We mostly fish with class #8 and #9 rods - equipment that you may already be familiar with from pike fishing. This means you are ideally equipped to withstand the explosive bites and brutal power of these fish.

More than just fishing

In addition to fishing, special highlights await you: an exclusive dinner on the sandy beach, light lunches right on the water or relaxed sundowners on deck after a successful day. The mix of adventure, comfort and community makes this trip unique.

What makes the Rio Negro so special?

The Rio Negro, the largest tributary of the Amazon, is not only a lifeline for an incredible variety of animal and plant species, but also home to the largest peacock bass in the world. Its particularly low pH value gives the water a characteristic reddish colour - and at the same time ensures that there are surprisingly few insects here. Despite the dense rainforest, the jungle around the Rio Negro is surprisingly pleasant and almost mosquito-free. This makes fishing for peacock bass not only exciting, but also exceptionally comfortable - an unrivalled natural experience.

What do you need for your peacock bass adventure?

So that you are optimally prepared, here is our equipment guide for the trip to the Rio Negro - what has proven itself and what you should look out for when buying tackle:

Rods & Reels

  • A fly rod in line class #8 or #9 is ideal. These weight classes give you enough backbone to control large, aggressive fish without having to exert excessive force.
  • The reel should have a smooth working drag, enough room for backing and be robust - a large arbour design helps with fast retrieve and reduces work in the fight.

Flies & Lures

  • A good selection of different streamers is essential - sizes of approx. 10-20 cm are tried and tested. The larger and bulkier, the more eye-catching. Colour combinations with yellow, green, red, olive, white, often with flash elements work well.
  • Popper / topwater flies are a must for those moments when the fish are active on the surface. Explosive strikes in the morning or evening are unforgettable.
  • Flies with large, sharp hooks (e.g. #3/0 to #4/0) and robust materials to withstand the teeth and power of the fish.

Extras & practical equipment

  • Additional rods: A backup setup never hurts!
  • Gloves or stripping guards are helpful to protect your fingers during many casts and during the drill.
  • Protection from the sun & weather: Sun cream, hat, light rain jacket if necessary - often underestimated, but very important.
