Orvis Clearwater Single Handed Fly Rod

Ever since the Orvis Clearwater series represents the benchmark for fly rods within its price class and proofs that performance rods with high quality hardware cost anything but a fortune – value-for-money par excellence!

For the new season Orvis presents their totally new Clearwater  series that has been improved both technically and aesthetically while decreasing the price once again. The new Clearwater reaps the rewards of Orvis flag ship models. During the development of the Helios 2, Helios 3 and Recon series the Orvis Company learned a lot about fly rod design and has implemented their latest accomplishments in their Clearwater rods. Every Clearwater rod now comes with a dedicated taper and action matching the line class and typical fishing scenario covered with the rod. As a result the #3- weight rods feature a more sensitive action generating accurate close range presentation with dry flies and nymphs in tight quarters. The #5-6 weight models come with a faster action to deliver dries at long range on larger waters and under windy condition. Whereas the heavier models in class #7-10 have plenty of power and stiffness to them in order to generate high line speeds and cast weighted flies against the wind. We are also glad to see a 10ft #3 weight rod dedicated rod for tight line nymphing – quick, sensitive and lightweight. Due to the improved materials and procedures applied the new Clearwater is also 10-15% stronger than its predecessor and shows a noticeable reduction in swing weight as well as a improved balance.

All Clearwater rods come with quality cork handles which not only improve the aesthetics but also the durability of the rods - rubber cork caps on the fighting-butt models further improve the durability. The large print above the handle makes the Clearwater blend in with the remaining Orvis family and adds to the modern look – after the example of the Helios 3.

Once again the Clearwater truly convinced us in all aspects - performance, design and value for money are nothing short of impressive! Overall these rods represent the perfect package for beginners and all y’all looking for a performance backup rod or into a new aspect of fly fishing.
